This wine's story

An iconic South Australian winemaking family! Walter Clappis has (almost) made more wines than we’ve drunk….and that is saying something.

A dynamic trio – the winemaking team consists of Walter, veteran winemaker of 33 vintages, daughter, Kimberly and her partner James Cooter. Walter’s experience and wisdom plus the energy and enthusiasm of the new generation has created the perfect balance in the winery. They adopt a minimalistic approach to winemaking, believing that good wines are “made in the vineyard”.

Sangiovese is high on the acidity scale, which means that it works really well with foods like tomatoes which are naturally acidic. Hello tomato based Italian food! The two acids neutralise each other and allow the less dominant ingredients, like Basil, to be exposed to the tongue.

Sommelier Notes

A rich, meaty Sangiovese from an iconic South Australian winemaking family! Walter Clappis has (almost) made more wines than I’ve drunk….and that is saying something. This is full of rich, ripe red cherry flavours, backed up by dark plums and a lick of cinnamon spice. Full, slightly creamy tannins complete the picture. Lives up to its name…

Team Notes

I didn't think Pizza could get much better, but when I added this wine into the dinner equation.... well let's just say.... I'm still learning.
