This wine's story

Villa Wolf is located in the Pfalz region of Germany, occupying an idyllic slice of heaven between the Haardt Mountains and the Rhine. The estate was established in 1756 and for two centuries basked in its success. However, towards the end of the 20th century they had let things slip and the once proud winery had lost its spark.

It wasn’t until 1996, when young gun winemaker Ernst Loosen took the reins that, inch by inch, it clawed its way back into the upper echelons of German winemaking by dramatically reducing the crop size, eliminating all chemical fertilisation and most importantly ensuring only minimal handling and interference of the wine.

Sommelier Notes

This is textbook Pinot Gris - bright yet complex, fresh and deep in flavour. Plenty of honeyed apples and a touch of nectarine, with fine, citrus-flavoured acidity to finish. Slightly weightier than some Australian examples, this is a versatile wine on the table.
